Significance
Kobe Mosque is the first mosque constructed in Japan. The strong structure of the building allowed it to remain standing during the bombings of World War II and to be used by the Japanese military as a shelter during the . The mosque survived the Great Kobe Earthquake in 1995 and housed many families that lost their homes. The mosque is built in traditional Asian-Turkish style and is elaborately decorated.

State of Preservation
