Significance
The Jami Ul Alfar Mosque is a striking monument for both Colombo and Sri Lanka. As being a significant building, it is a unique one in the country. Architecturally, red and white stripes, bounding the whole structure in every detail, are notable artistic features. Therefore the mosque is also known as the ”Red Masjid”.

State of Preservation
Generally, the Jami Ul Alfar Mosque is a well preserved one, as being founded in 1909. During the 1960s, the Jami Ul Alfar Mosque was mentioned to be enlarged and in 1975 the intervention started. The adjacent buildings were bought and added to the mosque structure. Today the complex is intended to be comprised of a four-storied structure, covering an area of 50.000 m2. Furthermore, rooms for guests and escalators for enabled and old people are intended to be in the complex.
