Significance
Mihrimah Sultan Mosque, is built near Edirne gate in Istanbul on the ancient Teodosian walls. It was built for Selim II’s sister, Princess Mihrimah. The mosque standing on a terrace with a single dome of 20 meter large is a prominent example of Mimar Sinan. Building the mosque took place from 1562 to 1656. It is a part of a complex including a medrese, mausoleum, double hamam and a row of vaulted shops. Its dome which stands on a square base is dominating the structure.

The mosque has been damaged by earthquakes several times (including 1719,1766,1814 and 1895). Also, the mosque was damaged at the earthquake in 1999; its minaret from its middle to the top is re-constructed.During
