Significance

Ever since the Prophet announced his prophet hood, the Muslims’ Gibla was ‘The Sacred House’ (Bayt Al Magdis). In the second year of the Prophet’s blessed migration, the Gibla was changed from Bayt Al Magdis to the Holy Kaaba. The Muslims would pray to both Giblas in the mosque, giving it its name. The mosque is located south west of Ruma Well, about 5 km from the Prophet’s Mosque in the north west direction.

Masjid al-Qiblatain (Mosque of the two Qiblas) is a mosque in Medina that is historically important for Muslims as the place when prophet Messenger while he was leading a prayer was told to change the direction of prayer (qibla) from Jerusalem to the HOLY KAABA IN MAKKAH.
It is the mosque in which the revelation was revealed to the Messenger, may blessings and peace be upon him, in the direction of prayer towards the Grand Mosque.
