Significance
The overall massing and layout of this structure follows Malaysian mosques prototypes. The three-storey high prayer hall forms the core of the building on either side of which rises the two-storey annexes housing the administration and offices. These annexes are accessible from lateral exterior stairs. The main prayer hall is covered by a large bulbous dome on a low drum and can be reached from the street through an arched porch placed at the top of monumental flight of stairs.

State of Preservation
The mosque is the largest in the Maldives, and also one of the largest in South Asia, admitting over 5,000 people.Opened in 1984 and the Centre also houses the Ministry of Islamic-Affairs from 11 November 2008 onwards.
