Significance
One of the oldest mosques in Yemen, the Al-Hadi mosque dates back to the 9th century. The tomb of Al-Hadi Yahia Bin Al-hussain stands inside the mosque. It was also a school for theological studies and an important center for learning Zaydism. An important feature of the mosque is that its mihrab is on two levels. This hypostyle structure is square in plan and it has a central rectangular courtyard. In the middle of the 13th century, a u-shaped prayer hall was added to the north of the mosque.
