Significance
The palace, built by Sarkin Rumfa, defines the main axis of Kano. The whole palace is surrounded by a wall of 6 to 9 meter high from the outside the height of which never exceeds more than 4.5 meter from the inside. The complex is composed of many courtyards. The decoration is concentrated on the two royal audience chambers and abstrat designs are used frequently.

State of Preservation
The Gidan Rumfa, sometimes called the Gidan Sarki (“Emir’s house”), was built in the late 15th century on the outskirts of the town of Kano. The new building extended the reach of the town and also led to the establishment of the Kurmi market. It was constructed by Muhammad Rumfa in the late 15th century.[2] Since the reign of Rumfa, it has continuously been the residence of the traditional authority in Kano. It currently has an area of 130,000 m2.
Today the structured is the resident place of Emir.
