Significance
The monument is the oldest and largest mosque in the Palestinian city of Nablus. There was a ruined Roman basilica on the site. However, the origin of the current building is a Crusader church, built in 1167 AD and then converted into a mosque after the Al-Salahi conquest of Nablus in 1187 AD and it was named after Saladin Al-Ayyubi.
