Significance
King Abdul Aziz Palace, Al Mueh is a historic monument on the road between Riyadh and Taif, built of volcanic rock over 400 years ago and was turned into a palace for the king in 1347 AH (1928 AD). A black stone wall surrounds the palace from all sides and in the past it was used as a military garrison.
The Palace was built at ALMUWAIH for the use of His Majesty King Abdul-Aziz as a way- station when he was travelling from Riyadh and Makkah. It was later used by his son H.M King Saud and by some delegates of the Gulf princes as well as pilgrims who were coming on the Hajj from all over the world. Because of the importance of its location, ALMUWAIH was provided with vital services, such as a court of law, a dispensary, a school, a post office, a fuel station, a private air port for King Abdul-Aziz and the responsibility for the administration of a number of areas i.e AFIF, DHULEM, ASHEERA and RUDHWAN.
One of the most important ancient palaces, which was built by King Abdulaziz, may God have mercy on him, in 1335 AH. It is located in the old and deserted Mawia from many years ago. The Mawia moved to an area 30 km away from the old site, which is fenced off by the Antiquities Agency.
