State of Preservation
The faces of the first storey and the basement floor have gone through major repair with new sand stone pieces. In 1803 an earthquake destroyed the cupola. In 1829 it was reconstructed by a British engineer, Maj. Smith. However, in 1848, due its incompatible architecture the dome was removed. Presently it can be seen in the garden, near the entrance to the site. In 1993, UNESCO included the Qutb Minar in its list of World Heritage monuments. Qutub Minar is going under renovation works held in 2018.
